Tommy Joe "Tom" Bonnell, 71, of Indianapolis

Tommy Joe “Tom” Bonnell, 71, of Indianapolis, departed this life Sunday, November 27, 2022.

Tom was born September 18th, 1951 in Winamac, Indiana to the late Sherald L. “Shay” Bonnell and Verla Glenn (Haselby) Bonnell.

Tom was a 1969 graduate of Winamac High School and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in Business from Ball State University.

Tom was dedicated to serving his family and his wife of 47 years and 4 months, Sarah Lynn (Hutchens) Bonnell, who proceeded him in death.  Known for his quick, dry wit and sense of humor, Tom was a dedicated and loyal soul who was happiest making memories with his family and friends. He absolutely loved enriching the lives of his grandchildren through his family’s genealogical records, as well as regaling them with stories of yesteryear in Pulaski County. He never passed on an opportunity to visit and share with his children and grandchildren, and appreciated his own quiet moments with family, often times celebrating life with good barbeque and a small glass of Miller High Life.

Tom was a longtime member of the Northern Indiana Power from the Past, Inc., and an avid collector of all things related to antique tractors and farm machinery, including toy antique tractors, and numerous full-size working models that he would often painstakingly restore to their original condition.

When there was time to get away, he would make his way with his family to Lake Maxinkuckee or Lake Bass where many memories were made.

Tom is survived by his devoted sons, Shay (Angie) Bonnell, Domenick (Tiffany) Calabrese, Trent Bonnell and Travis (Jessica) Bonnell; his sister, Charlene (Jim) Planck; nephews Kevin and Corey Planck; nephews Jeff, Kent, and Brad Bonnell; nieces Cristy (Planck) Hankla, and Michelle J. (Bonnell) Grostefon. Tom is also survived by his dedicated grandchildren, Avery, Brady, Bowen and Briggs Calabrese; Audrey, Grant and Aspyn Bonnell; Carter and Connor Bonnell, and Ethan Lamar; a host of dear friends, grateful students, and a score of former employees of The Braun Corporation and Legend Valley Products/O’Brien Manufacturing.

Tom will be honored and remembered as a parent, husband, colleague, and friend.

Stacey Angela Carvey-Schoenhals, 42, Rochester

Stacey Angela Carvey-Schoenhals, 42, Rochester, made Heaven an even brighter place when she arrived there from Lutheran Hospital, Ft. Wayne, on Thursday morning, January 26, 2023, after a courageous battle with her health.

Born January 19, 1981, in Peru, Indiana, she was the daughter of Lester Bruce and Gloria M. (Bartleman) Carvey.  On November 27, 2004, she was married to Lukas A. Schoenhals, and he survives.

Stacey was raised in Rochester, Indiana, and attended All Saints Elementary in Logansport.  She was a 1999 graduate of Rochester High School, where she exhibited her Zebra pride by being involved in just about any activity she could fit into her schedule.  In addition to her school involvement, she was active in the Miami County 4-H program, where she enjoyed showing animals and exhibiting her baking skills which she practiced with her “Nanny Carvey.”

From high school, Stacey went on to study education at Indiana State University, where she graduated in 2003.  While at Indiana State, she was very active with the Alpha Omicron Pi Sorority, ending her college career as the chapter’s President.  Keeping active with organizations and service after college, Stacey served as former President of Tri Kappa’s Rochester Chapter, and up until the last few weeks, she was still serving as treasurer for the Rochester Athletic Boosters.

After returning to Rochester, she continued her involvement with her community as a proud Zebra fan and serving on the Rochester School Board.  Stacey could be found at just about any Zebra sporting activity, always bringing her joyous and bubbly personality to cheer on her alma mater.  Although she was partial to Zebra sports, Stacey would support any child of her friends, no matter what color jersey they sported.  For many years, Stacey worked with her sister, Lisa, and brother-in-law, Shane, at Rochester Boat Company, but most often could be found around town as the personal chauffeur to her favorite nephew, Jack, whom she loved like he was her own.

Stacey loved traveling and everything related to Disney.  Trips to Florida to visit Disney World always brought a smile to her face, and she loved planning the details of every trip so that her family made the most of each minute they were there.  Details were important to Stacey and each project had its own organization strategy, whether it was a basket, tote, or meticulously labeled binder.  She used her organization skills not only to plan trips, but also to decorate and coordinate parties and events which were often themed, color coordinated, and organized perfectly.

Stacey was a friend to everyone she met.  If you spent just a few minutes with her, you were a friend for life.  Reunions with old friends seemed to have no time between them, and Stacey remembered every detail of her friendships over the years.  She had an incredible heart and truly loved everyone, making any greeting a moment that brightened the days of everyone.  Her smile beamed and brightened any room she walked inside.  Stacey will forever be remembered for her love, friendship, and truly being someone you could call who would give you the shirt off of her back.

Survivors include her husband, Lukas A. Schoenhals, Rochester; mother, Gloria M. Carvey, Rochester; sister, Lisa A. (Shane) Reffett, Rochester; nephew, Jack Carvey Reffett, Rochester; grandmother, Donna Bell Carvey, Macy; canine child, Gizmo; and more friends than could ever be counted.

She was preceded in death by her father, Lester Bruce Carvey; grandparents, Lester Dee Carvey, and Stanley D. and Elizabeth Ann Bartleman; and her beloved dog, Lacey.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 5, 2023, at Rochester High School

Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 4, 2023, at the high school.

As we all say goodbye to our beloved Stacey, let us all be reminded of the words from The Adventures of Winnie-the-Pooh, “How lucky am I to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.”

In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the Northern Indiana Community Foundation (memo: Stacey Carvey Memorial Fund) and sent to McClain Funeral Home, PO Box 248, Denver, IN 46926.  McClain Funeral Home, Denver, Indiana, has been entrusted with arrangements.  Condolences may be sent online at www.mcclainfh.com.

She was born on January 16, 1937, to Clyde and Mary Adeline (Eisert) Harvey near Buffalo, Indiana in White County. Kay always lived on a farm; her parents moved from Royal Center to rural Fulton County when she was a girl. The farm still resides in the family.

She was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority and graduated from Ball State in 1959. She went on to earn her Master’s in Education from Ball State in the early 1960s.

When she wasn’t studying in Muncie, Kay worked as a carhop at the Dog n Suds root beer stand in Rochester during the summers and breaks to help pay for college. There Kay met her husband, Arnold, who could be found cruising the root beer stand in his pink convertible, sipping a 25-cent root beer, and generally causing mischief.

She eventually added Reading teacher to her many titles and retired after 41 years in education in 2001.

Kay was an avid quilter and women’s league bowler, active in the Fulton County Retired Teachers Association and in Delta Kappa Gamma, a professional women educator’s society, and a member of Riverview Community Church. When not coaching, refereeing, quilting, or teaching, she could be found volunteering in the community and the local schools. Lately she was smitten with spoiling her great granddaughter, Madison.
