Timothy F. "Tim" Hoffa, Jr., 44, of Rogers, Arkansas, formerly of Winamac

Timothy F. “Tim” Hoffa, Jr., 44, of Rogers, Arkansas, formerly of Winamac, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, October 16, 2023.

He was born on March 20, 1979 in Warren, MI to Timothy F. and Elizabeth E. “Liz” [Szostek] Hoffa, Sr. who were the proud parents of three sons, Gregory, Duane, and Tim, Jr.

Sadly, Liz passed away in August of 1982 when Tim was only three.  The family relocated to Indiana shortly thereafter.  Tragedy struck the Hoffa family again when Gregory passed away in February of 1996.

Despite the hardships, Tim persevered.  As a teen, he was active in the French Club and played on the Freshman Basketball Team at Pioneer High School in Royal Center, IN.  He graduated from Winamac High School in 1997 and attended college for a short time after.

On June 29, 2002, he married his soulmate, Christina L. “Christi” Shorter.  Their union brought two beautiful children into this world, Madi Liz and Ethan, whom Tim and Christi loved very much.  It broke Tim’s heart when Christi passed away on November 20, 2018 after a very hard-fought and courageous battle with Leukemia.  One of Tim and Christi’s favorite family activities was camping.

He was an avid Michigan Wolverines and Indianapolis Colts fan. Three years ago, Tim moved to Arkansas for a fresh start where he had a good job working at Springfield Sign Co. in Rogers.

Tim enjoyed spending time together with his fiancée, Samantha “Sam” Ezell.  They loved their daily Starbucks runs, walking trails, and cooking dinner together.  Tim and Sam were “lobsters for life”.  Sadly, the hardships of life and the pains of this world overwhelmed Tim.   He will not be remembered for how he died but rather how he lived and how he loved.  He cherished his family, especially his children.  He was a good friend to many and was kind to all.   Rest easy Tim, we will take it from here.

She worked at Sugar Shack in Mitchell during high school, Alexander’s Super Market and held many different jobs while raising her children before retiring from Delphi Electronics in Kokomo.

She loved the sun, gardening, cooking, photography and sewing. She also loved researching genealogy and volunteered on findagrave.com. She believed nobody should ever be forgotten.  “What we keep in memory, is ours unchanged forever.” You will find thousands of photos online that she took to commemorate other families.  During her journey through many states and countries she came in met many wonderful people, far too many to name, but she loved them all.

She said she lived most of her life in a box and will be freed and released from her pain to soar. Her wishes are to be remembered in a memorial to celebrate her life, not her death.

We love you mom with all or our hearts, as she would say….God Speed and CYA.  May time move down it’s endless path of beauty; your feet remembered by the blades of grass…!   Online expressions of sympathy may be made to her family at www.goodfamilyfh.com.  The arrangements have been entrusted to Good Family Funeral Home of Rochester.

Betty A. Eckert, 93, of rural Claypool, (Beaver Dam Lake)

Betty A. Eckert, 93, who saw nearly a century of the most amazing times in history, of rural Claypool, (Beaver Dam Lake) passed surrounded by her family at 5:36 pm, Sunday, Oct. 1, 2023 at her residence.

She married on Nov. 4, 1950 in Warsaw, Indiana to Merl “Bud” H. Eckert, who preceded her in death on Nov. 10, 1995.

She was an operator for United Telephone as well as working for R.R. Donnelley & Sons, Holland Furnace Company, Horn’s Sunny Meade all of Warsaw. Betty served as one of the first community emergency operators, plugging into the fire firefighters line and providing them with the location of the fire (all before 911 was established in Indiana).

She enjoyed being in bowling leagues, and loved playing cards or any kind of games. In addition she enjoyed spending time crocheting, reading and making cinnamon rolls. She was always game for anything even in her later years, going on a canoe excursion being dumped two different times by her kids, still always up for another adventure. She even ventured to go with her mother and mother in law on one of the camping trips. The family loved camping each year in Minnesota or Florida, she would say “I believe that’s where all my kids came from”. Another excursion was to take her father dying of cancer for his last adventure.

She stayed by her husband’s side as he was placed in hospice care during his passing. She experienced the tragic death of her 2 sons being lost at sea after a fishing excursion in Florida, one survived while the other 2 were never found; she has also experienced the loss of 3 grandchildren. However she always stayed positive and forged on and made us all stronger and continued to enjoy every new adventure every day.

She is survived by her daughter Tina and husband Chris Cook of Warsaw; son Michael and wife Mary Eckert of Claypool; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren; sisters Barbara Ginter of Hobart; and her dog Benji.
