William Mack Haimbaugh, 85, of Rochester

William Mack Haimbaugh, 85, of Rochester, passed away at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, December 24, 2023, surrounded by his loving family at his home.

Mack was born on May 14, 1938 in Pontiac, Michigan, the son of Alonzo and Ida (Scott) Haimbaugh. On August 1,1959 at the Olive Branch Church in Fulton, Indiana, he married Carol Joy Champ and she survives.

Mack had spent his life as a farmer and District Sales Manager for Garst Seed Company. He was a member of the Yorktown Road Church of Christ, Logansport, Indiana. Mack enjoyed gardening, agriculture, and playing games with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Carol J. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 29, 2023 at Zimmerman Bros. Funeral Home, Rochester.

Burial to follow in Bethlehem Methodist Episcopal Church Cemetery, Twelve Mile. Friends may visit from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Thursday December 28, 2023 and one hour prior to service Friday at the funeral home.

Michael "Mike" Gene Reed, 57, of Rochester

Michael “Mike” Gene Reed, 57, of Rochester, passed away at 12:00 A.M. Tuesday, December 26, 2023 at his residence.

He was born on March 3, 1966 in McDowell, Kentucky. Growing up in Floyd County, Kentucky, he was a 1984 graduate of Prestonsburg High School. He moved to Indiana and was employed in the Recreational Vehicle Manufacturing Industries.

Mike was known for his humor, mischievous, smile, and being naturally charismatic. He could bring joy and laughter to any occasion. He loved being outdoors. His favorite past times were fishing, looking for morels and hunting. He was the happiest in camouflage.

Kurt Lee Vansteenberg  67, of Marion, passed away at 8:43 A.M. Thursday, December 28, 2023 at his residence.

He was born on March 1, 1956 in Smyrna, Tennessee, the son of Leslie Joe and Marjorie (Kratzman) Vansteenberg.

Kurt was an U.S. Air Force Veteran. Survivors inluce his sister, Sharon (Tom) Mutchler, Rochester, Indiana.

Graveside services will be condcuted at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Rochester, Indiana.

Beverly Thomas, 75, of Rochester

Beverly Thomas, 75, of Rochester, passed away at 3:37 AM on Thursday, December 21, 2023, at her residence.

On August 20, 1948, Beverly Jean was born in Champaign, IL to Floyd T. and Leota Collins Parks. Proudly Beverly graduated with the Class of 1966 from Crestview High School.

Beverly and Steven L. Thomas were married on November 27, 1976 in Dallas, TX.   They have shared 47 years of life’s adventures. From their union came two sons, Derrick and Corey.  Two more generations have been added to the family tree with the blessings of three grandsons and three great grandsons.

As a homemaker, Beverly cherished the time with her family. She enjoyed traveling with Steve. Their favorite places were Cancun, Bahamas, the Barbados Island and Hawaii. While in Hawaii, they visited Maui and Kona. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Black Top Cruisers, both of Rochester.  Beverly was very proud to show their 1953 black Ford F-100.

Left to cherish the memories of Beverly are her husband Steve; two sons:  Derrick Thomas and wife Shelly of Indianapolis, Corey Thomas and wife Jill of Rochester, three grandsons:  Michael Thomas, Waylon Thomas, Weston Thomas;  three great grandsons: Carson Bobby Thomas, twins Cohen and Carter Pipes; and canine companion, Scooter a Terrier special blend.

Preceding Beverly in death are her parents.

A celebration of the life of Beverly J. Thomas will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 29, 2023 in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 West 18th St., Rochester.  Pastor Jim Howard will officiate.  

Friends may visit with the family from 4-7 PM on Thursday, December 28, 2023 and one hour prior to the service in the funeral home on Friday.

Richard W. Hudkins

Mr. Richard W. Hudkins, 98 years, 4 months and 5 days, departed this life on the afternoon of December 23, 2023, with his loving family at his side.

On August 18, 1925, near Kewanna, Richard was the first born of the Hudkins kids. His proud parents were William Judson and Mildred Iris Brooker Hudkins.  Growing up he shared his childhood with five brothers and a sister.   In 1943 he graduated from Leiters Ford High School. 

Patriotism beckoned and Richard answered the call, in January of 1944 he entered the United States Army Air Corp during World War II.  As a member of the 508th Bomber Group he flew over 30 missions during World War II as a waist gunner on the B-17 flying fortress.  The gunner protected the aircraft and was in a challenging and very dangerous position.  Additionally, their crew was charged with flying POW's back to France.  He was involved with the Rhineland Central Europe Campaign   Staff Sgt. Richard W. Hudkins returned home following an honorable discharge on February 15, 1946. Some of his decorations included: Victory Medal World War II, American Theater Ribbon,  EAME Theater Ribbon with 2 Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Medal, Air Medal with 1 Bronze Cluster.

On November 20, 1948, Richard married Lillian L. Mahler in Mishawaka.  They enjoyed 52 years of life's adventures. Sadly, she passed away on August 7, 2001. 

Returning home, with a strong work ethic Richard worked at Studebaker in South Bend as a machinist.  Years later he transitioned to hauling milk for Ward Polley and Dean's Foods. During most of his adult life he farmed and retiring at age 81.

On October 18, 2015, Richard was a member of the Lafayette Veteran's Honors Flight accompanied by guardian little brother Virgil.  He maintained a close relationship with many of his platoon members and attended nearly all of the 351st Bomb Group  (H) Association of the Army Air Corps Reunions.

As an adventurer and an American outdoorsman, Richard enjoyed annual hunting trips with the Hudkins' brothers.  They hunted pheasant and other game birds in Nebraska.  Many times, the nephews went too.  To relax, Richard loved to travel.  He wintered in Port St. Lucie, Florida for many years.  He also once took a driving vacation to explore Alaska by first visiting California.

Left to treasure Richard's memory are his daughter Jane Schuldberg of Newport, NC; brother Virgil Hudkins (Sue) of Rochester; companion Jean Simpson of Rochester and her daughters Judy Swank and Priscilla Ballee; 4 grandchildren: Rebecca Peterman, Jeremy Hudkins, Jennifer Lovick, Jeffrey Kerley; several great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Welcoming Richard to Heaven was many of his immediate family including beloved wife Lillian on August 7, 2001;  his sons James E. "Jim" Hudkins January 10, 2022, Richard “Dick” Hudkins on February 5, 1996; parents William and Mildred Hudkins; a sister Mary Ellen Hudkins George; and 4 Hudkins brothers: Don, George, Jerry and John P.

A celebration of the life of Mr. Richard W. Hudkins will be at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 4, 2024, in the Good Family Funeral home, 1200 West 18th Street, Rochester.  Reverand Gretchen Schneider will officiate services.  

Friends may visit with his family on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, from 5:00 - 7:00 pm and an hour prior to his services on Thursday.  

Burial will follow in the IOOF Cemetery.  

The United States Army Honor's Team and the Fulton County Veteran's Honor Guard will accord military graveside rites.

Nancy Lebo Clay, 90, of Rochester

Nancy Lebo Clay, 90, of Rochester, passed away at 7:45 PM on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at Woodbridge Health Campus of Logansport.

On November 16, 1933, Nancy Jean Hopper was born in Rochester to Alfred L. and Ruth E. Barts Hopper. She was the fourth of a family of seven children. Proudly she graduated with the Class of 1952 from Rochester High School.

Nancy and Gordon V. Lebo were married on September 4,1953 in Rochester. They shared 41 years of life’s adventures. Sadly, he passed away on August 11, 1994.  From their union came three children, Gayle, Garrick “Gary” and Gordon “Mike”.

On September 29, 1996, Nancy and Richard Clay were married at the First Christian Church. He passed away on July 3, 2018.

As a homemaker, Nancy cherished the time with her family.  She often prepared her famous chicken and noodles for family gatherings. Being community minded, Nancy volunteered for the Fulton County Blood Drives and the Trail of Courage. She made her delicious chocolate chip cookies and meals for her co-workers. Her memberships include the First Christian Church of Rochester and the Kappa Delta Phi Sorority for 50 plus years.  Over the years, Nancy was a card shark, she showed her hand while playing Euchre and Bridge around the table with her friends.

Cruising international waters were enjoyed with friends, Mary and Wayne Alber.  Nancy also traveled to Dubai twice to visit her grandson.

A celebration of the life of Nancy Clay will be at 12 noon on Wednesday, January 3, 2024 in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 West 18th St., Rochester.

Bryan M. Conner, 52, of Star City

Bryan M. Conner, 52, of Star City, IN passed away on Friday, December 22, 2023 at his home surrounded by his family. 

Our Bryan fought the biggest fight of his life for two years - all the while as selfless as he was his only concern throughout his illness was his wife, children, and grandchildren. 

He was born on March 30, 1971 in Winamac to Dick E. and Ruth Ann [Lutes] Conner. 

Bryan graduated from Winamac High School in 1990.  He married Marla L. Lloyd on December 25, 2005 in Winamac. 

Bryan was an electrical journeyman NIPSCO for 11 ½ years and was capable of repairing just about anything.  He cared deeply for his NIPSCO family.

He was an avid hunter and NASCAR fan.  Bryan was well-known as a practical joker and recently showed us how he could “bust a move”.  He enjoyed walkabouts with his grandchildren on the family farm. 

Most of all, Bryan was compassionate, giving of himself, and loving towards others.  We will miss him beyond comprehension.

Theodore P. "Ted" Hanson, 73, of Lake Bruce, IN, formerly of Hobart

Theodore P. "Ted" Hanson, 73, of Lake Bruce, IN, formerly of Hobart, passed away on Friday, December 22, 2023 at his home. 

Ted was born on July 6, 1950 in Chicago, IL.  He graduated from Morton High School in Hammond, IN. 

On July 3, 1993, he married the love of his life, Barbara L. [Call] Martin in Hammond. 

Ted worked as a policeman and a train dispatcher for Indiana Harbor Belt Railroad and retired after over 35 years.
Ted and Barb liked traveling.  For over 20 years they took trips to the UP where they would fish and enjoy boat rides together. 

enjoyed the outdoors and camping.  He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Notre Dame Football fan.  Ted adored his dogs, Wrigley, Addison, and Bruiser.  Most of all, he loved his family and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. He was blessed to have met his two great grandsons before he passed away.

Michael E. “Mike” Cooper, 71, of Monticello, passed away at his residence on Saturday, December 16, 2023, with his family by his side.

Mike was born on November 7, 1952 in Logansport, IN to the late Edwin and Marilyn S. [Draper] Cooper. 

In 1973, he married Mary C. Stinson.  They later divorced, yet never separated and lived together as friends until her passing in 2007.

Mike was a US Navy Veteran and served his country proudly. He had worked at Bassett Rotary and Tool for many-many years until its closing.

George E. Meyer, 85, of Rochester

George E. Meyer, 85, of Rochester, was surrounded by his loving family when he passed away at 7:07 PM on Monday, December 18, 2023 at his home.

On February 28, 1938, George Erwin Meyer was born in South Holland, IL to Erwin and Mildred Sons Meyer. Shortly after high school, he answered the call of patriotism, George served with the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1962.

George and Mary Kay Haskell were married on February 2, 1971 in Chicago. They shared 41 years of life’s adventures. Sadly, she passed away on July 7, 2012.

As a farmer, George oversaw a fine dairy herd for many years and later he  raised hogs.  He also hauled milk.  His love of his F-20 Farmall started his passion for collecting a fleet of antique tractors.

With a strong work ethic, George was a blow mold operator at Dean’s Foods of Rochester for 25 years. His memberships include the Fulton County Historical Society, IHCC Chapter #33,  the South Lake County Antique Farm and Tractor Club,  LeRoy Shelton American Legion # 36, Fraternal Order of the Eagles # 852 and Manitou Moose Lodge #1107.

Left to cherish George's memory are four children, Donald Meyer and wife Kim of Rochester, Rhonda Moore and husband Dave of Rensselaer, Heidi Foster Snyder of Rochester, Patrick Foster and companion Debbie Miller of Rochester; twelve grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, one great-great-great grandchild with another blessing on the way; sister, Rochelle “Shimol” Bowie of Crown Point; special nephew, Robert Daniel Bowie and God daughter, Cheryl Ann Crider.

Jeffrey Charles "Hubba" Henderson, 56, of Monticello

Jeffrey Charles "Hubba" Henderson, 56, of Monticello, passed away on Wednesday, December 20, 2023 at Northwest Health Portage Hospital in Portage. 

Jeff was born on August 13, 1967 at Beale AFB in California to Charles L. "Ron" and Rayanna [Clouser] Henderson. 

He graduated from Winamac High School in 1986 where he was active in football and wrestling as well as track and field.  Jeff enjoyed scouting and proudly achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. 

After high school, he studied automotive technology at Northwest Ohio Technology School. Jeff was a longtime truck driver for Tippecanoe Beverage and Hopkins Trucking.  He was currently employed at Van Meter Trucking.
On September 27, 2003, Jeff married the love of his life, Viola Mae Floyd at the First United Methodist Church in Winamac. 

He was a member of Pulaski County ABATE and was a motorcycle enthusiast.  Jeff was an outdoors man who enjoyed camping, hunting, shooting, and riding around the neighborhood on his golf cart.  He was an "avid golfer" playing one round a year at the Clouser Open.
Jeff loved spending time with his friends and family as well as his dogs.  He will be deeply missed.

Beverly Thomas, 75, of Rochester

Beverly Thomas, 75, of Rochester. passed away at 3:37 AM on Thursday, December 21, 2023, at her residence.

On August 20, 1948, Beverly Jean was born in Champaign, IL to Floyd T. and Leota Collins Parks. Proudly Beverly graduated with the Class of 1966 from Crestview High School.

Beverly and Steven L. Thomas were married on November 27, 1976 in Dallas, TX.   They have shared 47 years of life’s adventures. From their union came two sons, Derrick and Corey.  Two more generations have been added to the family tree with the blessings of three grandsons and a great grandson.

As a homemaker, Beverly cherished the time with her family. She enjoyed traveling with Steve. Their favorite places were Cancun, Bahamas, the Barbados Island and Hawaii. While in Hawaii, they visited Maui and Kona. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Black Top Cruisers, both of Rochester.  Beverly was very proud to show their 1953 black Ford F-100.

Left to cherish the memories of Beverly are her husband Steve, two sons, Derrick Thomas and wife Shelly of Indianapolis, Corey Thomas and wife Jill of Rochester, three grandsons, Michael Thomas, Waylon Thomas, Weston Thomas;  three great grandsons Carson Bobby Thomas, twins Cohen and Carter Pipes; canine companion, Scooter a Terrier special blend.

Preceding Beverly in death are her parents.

A celebration of the life of Beverly J. Tomas will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 29, 2023 in the Good Family Funeral Home, 1200 West 18th St., Rochester.  Pastor Jim Howard will officiate. 

Friends may visit with the family from 4-7 PM on Thursday, December 28, 2023 and one hour prior to the service in the funeral home on Friday.

Connie L. Hartman, 86, Logansport, and longtime Fulton resident

Connie L. Hartman, 86, Logansport, and longtime Fulton resident, passed away at 9:12 P.M. Friday, December 15, 2023 at St. Vincent Hospital, Kokomo, Indiana.

She was born on September 20, 1937 in Akron, Indiana, the daughter of Dencil and Edith (Sullivan) Walls. Connie graduated from Akron High School in 1955. On May 26, 1971, in Fulton, Indiana, she married Roy Hartman. He preceded her in death on August 10, 1977.

Connie started her professional career working for the Rochester Telephone Company as a switchboard operator. She served as Communications Operator for the Logansport State Hospital from 1978-1997 and retired from the Town of Fulton as Clerk/Treasurer after serving sixteen years. She had served as Precinct Committeeman for Liberty Township, was a member of the Fulton -Liberty Lions Club, attended the Rochester Church of Christ, and was an avid Colts Fan.

Survivors include her sons, Douglas (Tammerrie) Nolen, Logansport, Indiana, Howard (Tonya) Hartman, Macy, Indiana, stepson, LeRoy Hartman, Macy, Indiana, eight grandchildren, Bryce (Laura) Nolen, Brantley (Maria) Hartman, Paul (Stacey) Nolen, Brock (Selena) Hartman, Brady Hartman, Cloe (Sam) Bowers, Sarah Nolen, Naomi (Braiden) Farlow, two great- granddaughters, Wren and Rayna Hartman, brother, Donald (Sharon) Walls, Argos, Indiana, several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters, Jean DeTurk, and Doris Woolington.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 28, 2023 at the Rochester Church of Christ, Rochester, Indiana.

Rita Carolyn House, 75, North Judson, formerly of Lexington, OK

Rita Carolyn House, 75, North Judson, formerly of Lexington, OK, passed away on Thursday, December 7, 2023 at Pulaski Health Care Center in Winamac.

She was born on November 26, 1948 in Dyersburg, TN to the late Charles and Martha [Rushing] Gregson. Carol graduated from Calumet High School in Gary, IN. On February 3, 1968, she married Dennie House in Hobart, IN and became the mother of two beautiful little girls.

Carol lived most of her adult life in Lowell, IN before moving to Lexington to live with sister. Most recently, she relocated back to Indiana to live with her daughter.

Carol enjoyed making ceramic crafts and shopping. She also enjoyed bird watching, especially cardinals. Carol loved her many pets over the years. More than anything, she deeply loved her family and would do anything for them.

Marlene Jane (Reed) Bathrick, 86, of Rochester

Marlene Jane (Reed) Bathrick, 86, of Rochester, went home to be with her Savior on Monday, December 11, 2023 at Lutheran Kosciusko Hospital in Warsaw. 

Marlene was born to Howard and Lucy Reed on January 30, 1937 near Nappanee, Indiana.  She grew up on an 80-acre farm east of Rochester and was the oldest of 5 girls.  After graduating from Talma High School, she worked at Public Service Co. in Rochester. 

On December 6, 1958, she married Kenneth Bathrick at Mentone Baptist Church.  They shared 58 years of marriage together before Kenny preceded her in death on November 24, 2017. 

She was a loving and devoted stay-at-home mother to their two children, Carmen and Kerry.  Later, she drove a Rochester Community school bus and started an upholstery and boat cover business.  After Kenny retired in 1996, they enjoyed winters in Okeechobee, Florida where they spent a lot of time fishing on Lake Okeechobee and hosting friends and family.

Marlene and Ken were members of the Black Top Cruisers car club in Rochester.  They enjoyed showing their restored 1931 Model A at car shows while visiting with club members and sharing insights about their restoration.  Their garage eventually became full of trophies that acknowledged the craftsmanship that Marlene and Ken put into the car.  Earlier in their married life, they shared a love of boating and camping, traveling throughout the United States and Canada.  Marlene also enjoyed gardening, playing piano and organ, and spending time with her grandchildren.  She was a member of Riverview Community Church and was known for her friendly and cheerful disposition, letting her light shine by engaging in conversations with those around her.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Carmen (Randy) Paris (Winona Lake, IN); Kerry (Anna) Bathrick (River Forest, IL); grandchildren Maddie and Landon Paris (Winona Lake, IN); and Ellie and Jack Bathrick (River Forest, IN).  Also surviving are her sisters Deloris (Chuck) Feldman (Rochester, IN); Carolyn (Rev. Joel) McElreath (Sun City, AZ); Janita (Scott) Stinson (Kewanna, IN); and Sharon (Bob) Sterk (Sevierville, TN); as well as her brother-in-law Keith (Carolyn) Bathrick (Rochester, IN); sisters-in-law Karen (Dan) Gibson, Marilyn Townsend, and Carolyn (Jim) Wagoner; and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, in-laws, and multiple brothers and sisters-in-law.

Friends and family may visit from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 14, 2023, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, Indiana.

There will also be an hour of visitation prior to the service from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.

Marlene’s life will be celebrated with a service at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 15, 2023, at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Home, 225 Argonne Road, Warsaw, Indiana and officiated by Pastor Rod Ruberg. 

A graveside service will follow at Rochester I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rochester, Indiana.

Anna Louise Topp, 89, of Francesville, passed away on Sunday, December 10, 2023. 

She was born on November 2, 1934 in Medaryville, IN to the late Jacob and Mabel [Logan] Vogt. 

Louise graduated from Francesville High School.  She was a member of the Apostolic Christian Church in Francesville. 

Louise enjoyed visiting with neighbors and friends, often blessing them with her baked goods.

Joseph “Joe” R. Bailey, 69, Rochester, passed away at 12: 53 P.M. Sunday, December 10, 2023 at his residence.

He was born on January 20, 1954 in Rochester, Indiana, the son of Curt and Audrey (Brown) Bailey.  Joe was employed at Biomet, currently Zimmer, in Warsaw, Indiana for the past twenty years and had also worked for Lobdell Emery for many years prior where he had served as Union President. In his younger days, he had worked at a gas station and for Pike Garage Doors. He enjoyed playing frisbee golf, rock collecting, crystals, loved cooking and entertaining friends and family.

Sue Vore, 84, of Logansport, formerly of Camden

Sue Vore, 84, of Logansport, formerly of Camden, passed away on Friday, December 8, 2023 at Chase Center.
Born on December 28, 1938 in Logansport, she was the daughter of the late George and Mildred (Jones) Thomas.
She was a 1956 Tipton Township High School graduate.
Sue retired from Federal Mogul in 1998 and she enjoyed reading, crocheting, taking care of her animals and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Donald Vore, Jr. (Beth) of Logansport, Terry Vore of Logansport and Tom Vore (Bonnie) of Galveston, brother, Chuck Thomas (Diana) of Flora, grandchildren, Mark Vore (Ellie), Kim Vore and Kyle Vore (Olevia) and great grandchildren, Otto Key, Hendrix Key and Dominic Vore.
She was also preceded in death by her brother, Robert Lee, sister, Marge, and grandson, Michael Vore.
Services will be at 12:00 p.m., Thursday, December 14, 2023 at Rans Funeral Homes, Marocco Chapel, 119 E. Market St., Logansport.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Henry W. Paulson, 67, of Rochester

Henry W. Paulson, 67, of Rochester, passed away at 1:23 AM on Sunday, December 10, 2023 at his residence.

On September 30, 1956, Henry Walter was born in Chicago to John Donald and Helen Florence Kalma Paulson.  Proudly, Henry graduated with the Class of 1973 from Wells High School of Chicago. Answering the call of patriotism, Henry served with the US Army and was honorably discharged in 1977.

With a strong work ethic, Henry was a fabricator for Rochester Metal Products. Grandpa cherished the time with his grandchildren. Handing out treats on Halloween to the neighborhood kids was always enjoyed. He was known for his kind heart as he helped the elderly. On Wednesday nights he could be found watching M.A.S.H. and wrestling, but scary movies, especially Bigfoot was a favorite. He liked to go antiquing to see what new treasures could be found.  Listening to country music and Elvis was a great way to relax. Henry always had a great respect for Chinese women.

Left to cherish the memories of Henry are his lifelong friend and former wife, Patricia Ann Hughes Paulson; three daughters, Helen Burden and fiancé Alfredo Barrientoz of Macy, Sandra Jimenez of Kokomo, Linda Franz of Rochester and longtime friend Judy, brother Adolph D. Paulson and wife Patricia of Maywood, IL; eight grandchildren Christina Wagers, Jackie Holloway, Alexandra Martir, Antionette Castellano, Braxton Jimenez, Teagan Powell, Henry John Paulson, Randy Franz Jr.;  six great grandchildren, Addison Marie Wagers, Elizabeth Grace Wagers, Anthony Troy Wagers, Nevaeh Ann Paulson,  Kalvin Andrew Franz  and Memphis Grady Paulson on board, due to arrive March 9, 2024.

Marlis Ann (Reimer) Snyder, 85 of Plymouth, and formerly of the Argos community

Marlis Ann (Reimer) Snyder, 85 of Plymouth, and formerly of the Argos community, passed away on December 4, 2023, at 6:53 a.m. at her residence.

On November 4, 1938, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin she was born and raised by her mother Marie (Menzer) Reimer. Marlis lived most of her life in Marshall County, Indiana.

On November 24, 1956, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin she married Donnie P. Snyder and together they shared the next 67 years.

Marlis was a housewife/homemaker. She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Plymouth, Indiana, and was a graduate of Sheboygan Central High School with the class of 1956.

Marlis is survived by her husband – Donnie Snyder of Plymouth, Indiana

Daughters – Julie S. Hampton and Karen L Snyder of Plymouth.

Son – Douglas P. Snyder and wife Kim of Plymouth.

Grandchildren – Haley Luna and husband Jesse, Lauren Hampton, Jessica Clements and husband Ken; and Brian Snyder and wife Kirsten

Donald L. Hale, 88, of Winamac

Donald L. Hale, 88, of Winamac, passed away on Monday, December 4, 2023 at Brickyard Terrace Care Center in LaPorte. 

He was born on April 19, 1935 in Magoffin County, KY to the late Robert B. and Betty Sue [Stephens] Hale.  He served in the US Army during the Korean War. 

On October 25, 1958, Don married Jacqueline Waterhouse in Bergenfield, NJ. 

Don was a proud member of the Winamac VFW Post #1728 and Winamac American Legion Post #71.  He served many years on the local honor guard.  Don was a member of the Church of the Heartland in Winamac.  He enjoyed golfing with friends, traveling with his family, and attending his grandkids sporting events.  Don also enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing on the Tippecanoe River and mowing his lawn.  He was a kind man who did not know a stranger.

Tina Irene Burkett VanSpeybroeck, 60, of Rochester

Tina Irene Burkett VanSpeybroeck, 60, of Rochester, went home to be with Jesus. She was surrounded by her loving family when she passed  at 7:15 PM on Sunday, December 3, 2023, at Woodlawn Hospital.

On April 11, 1963, Tina Irene Burkett was born in Crawfordsville to James David and Jane Louise Crosby Burkett. Growing up she shared her childhood with a sister, Mary Lou and two brothers, David and Paul. Proudly she graduated with the Class of 1982 from Wawasee High School in Syracuse. She continued her education at Indiana University of Kokomo.

Over the years, Tina was a truck driving professional and enjoyed road trips on dedicated routes to the east coast and the mid west.  As a crafter, Tina made beautiful blankets and baby hats by hand looming. The warm hats were given to the parents of newborns at Woodlawn Hospital. She also made a variety of wall art designs with her diamond painting projects.

Tina cherished time with her family. MeMaw loved to be with Kinley and Averie.  Everyday she took the girls to school and picked them up and was a part of their daily activities.  As the master of her kitchen, Tina prepared delicious meals and treats for her family and friends. Her cooking was a gift to the world.

Reading her Bible throughout the day brought her peace and comfort. It was her way of life.  Tina was a “ Tell me about my Jesus” lady.  She was not shy about sharing her faith in her Jesus!

Left to cherish Tina's memory are her daughter, Sarah Reynolds and husband Cody of Akron, two granddaughters, Kinley Grace and Averie Jane; father James Burkett of Scottsburg, sister Mary Lou Swanson of Rochester, two brothers, David John Burkett and wife Ann of Plainfield, Paul Burkett of Warsaw; two canine companions, Kahlua a white Chihuahua and Izzie a tan Chihuahua and several nieces and nephews.

Mark Eric Overmyer, 62, of Wolcott

Mark Eric Overmyer, 62, of Wolcott, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 5, 2023. 

He was born on August 28, 1961 in Rensselaer, IN to Danny Lee and Carol Ann [Finch] Overmyer. 

Mark graduated from West Central High School with the class of 1981 and took a short course at Purdue University School of Agriculture. 

He began his career in farming with D.L. Overmyer Farms and was currently employed by Monon Valley Ranch.  He enjoyed farming and was a hard worker.Mark was kind-hearted and loving. 

He enjoyed family gatherings, especially spending time with his nieces and nephews.

Lorrie Ann (Erp) Rogers 52, North Manchester, and formerly of Rochester, went home to be with God on November 27, 2023.

 Lorrie was born on November 10, 1971. The 52 years that she lived were a gift to so many. In 1990, Lorrie graduated from Tippecanoe Valley High School. Lorrie went on to earn a degree from the IU School of Dentistry as a dental assistant. Lorrie chose to work with people of all ages throughout her life. Sharing her beautiful smile, kind words, and love was her superpower!

Lorrie was the much-loved daughter of James and Linda (Hatfield) Erp, Talma, Indiana, the cherished sister of Diana Erp Nettleton and husband Matthew, North Manchester, Indiana and Emily (Erp) Vigne and husband James, Lawrence, Kansas. She was the best aunt in the world to Harrison and Wilson Nettleton, Elise and Foster Vigne. Lorrie was a proud mom to her cat Pepper, who she loved very much.

Throughout the final years of her life the people who were her friends, colleagues, Manchester University students, and caregivers enriched her life and became a part of her family. Lorrie will always be remembered as one of the strongest people most of us will ever know. She enjoyed making crafts, making wreaths for the holidays and decorating, and watching I.U. basketball. Lorrie loved watching movies and became quite a movie trivia buff.  Lorrie left this world a better place for all of us by simply being her.

Lorrie was preceded in death by her grandparents.

Memorial services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M Saturday, December 9, 2023 at Peabody Retirement Community Chapel, 400 W. 7th Street, North Manchester, Indiana.

Memorial contributions may be made to the North Manchester First Responders or the Wabash Animal Shelter.

Burial will take place at a later date at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Rochester. Arrangements by Zimmerman Bros. Funeral Home, Rochester.

Marilyn Sue (Mathias) Zartman Mitchell 91, Logansport, longtime Rochester and Fulton resident

Marilyn Sue (Mathias) Zartman Mitchell 91, Logansport, and longtime Rochester and Fulton, resident, passed away at 2:53 A.M. Thursday, November 23, 2023 at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana, Fort Wayne.

She was born on April 16, 1932 in Liberty Township, Fulton County, Indiana, the daughter of Ernest and Ruth (Strebe) Mathias. She graduated from Fulton High School in 1950. On April 13, 1952 at the Fulton United Methodist Church, she married the love of her life, Philip C. Zartman. He preceded her in death on June 23, 1974.

Sue worked at Logansport National Bank when they started their family of three children- Cheryl, Marty and Susan. She graduated from Rudae’s School of Beauty Culture in Logansport on August of 1965. Then she opened a salon attached to their home with her mother, Ruth,…..Su-Ru Coiffures north of Fulton. Many patrons from Rochester, Fulton and surrounding communities frequented the shop for their beauty and coiffed requests.
She was a lifetime seamstress and made clothing for herself, family and even the girl’s Barbie dolls. Sue was widowed at the young age of 41, left to raise three children and lovingly supported by her family.

She retired from beautician work to sew for a living. She traveled to Florida to visit her aunts and found herself sewing at boutiques in Lake Worth- West Palm Beach area before returning to Indiana as grandchildren were arriving. Later she sewed for Hart, Schaffner and Marx and Superior Samples in Rochester as well as the adventure of delivering RV’s out West. Her last employment position was a “House Mom “at Culver Military Academies when she married Larry Mitchell in 1999 in Rochester. He proceeded her in death in 2018. She resided at Pleasant Escape Catered Living in Logansport since 2018. Over the years she had been a member of the Fulton United Methodist Church, Nyona Lake Garden Club, Fulton County Choir, Fulton County Player’s Guild, Fulton County Homemaker’s Club & Choir, Moose Lodge, Elk’s Lodge, V.F. W., American Legion and Eagles Lodge. She enjoyed sewing, swimming, bicycling, walking, quilting and designing dresses.

Marilyn Sue is survived by her daughters, Cheryl (Phil) Oliver, Twelve Mile, Indiana, Susan (Steve) Skidmore, Rochester, Indiana, son, Marty (Joyce) Zartman, Nyona Lake, Indiana, eight grandchildren, Seth, Sean, Luke & Ethan Zartman, Lindsay Brubaker & Kyle Oliver, Kacie Skidmore & Emily Waldron, nineteen great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, with a third on the way, She loved her family!
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister and brother-in-law, Bonnie and Junior Montgomery, and two step-daughters.

Private Family services to Celebrate her life will take place in Spring 2024.

Burial will be in the Fulton Cemetery, Fulton.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross, Fulton County Public Library or Caston Schools Helping Hands.
